Families in Ironville celebrated the launch of a new play area with a teddy bear’s picnic and ‘best dressed teddy’ competition.
Amber Valley Housing organised the event to mark the completion of the new playground at Cinderbank in the village.
The housing association, which owns and manages more than 5,500 homes in the area, provided funding for the £46,000 project in partnership with Amber Valley Borough Council and contractors Lovell and Connaught.
The playground equipment, which includes new swings, climbing frames and adventure-style bridges, was chosen by residents following local consultation sessions.
Youngsters put the new playground through its paces as well as enjoying entertainment from face painters and balloon modellers. Amber Valley Housing also provided a cake to mark the launch.
Martin Sherman, group director of business development and asset management at Amber Valley Housing, said: “We have worked closely with residents in Ironville to develop the facilities at Cinderbank and know that the playground will be a real asset to the local community.
“We are pleased to be able to provide this equipment to create an area which will become a real focus for young families. The completion of the play area also supports our ongoing commitment to the regeneration of the village.”
Residents in the area also raised money to provide two new benches for the site, which have now been put in place.
