Tenants living in affordable homes in Belper have made the switch to a new landlord after voting to transfer their homes.
On 31st March Amber Valley Housing took over the ownership of 79 homes in Alder Road, previously belonging to Nottingham Community Housing Association.
The two housing associations agreed to the transfer following consultation with residents.
Amber Valley Housing owns and manages more than 5,500 homes in the area, including over 900 in Belper, and has managed the homes in Alder Road for the last six years. It has now taken on full ownership of the homes and will be working with tenants to agree a programme of refurbishments.
The homes are of non-traditional construction but have already benefited from modernisation under Nottingham Community Housing Association to help them meet new standards.
David Richardson, Director of Housing at Nottingham Community Housing Association, said: “NCHA identified the homes in Belper for transfer to Amber Valley Housing as they were already managing the properties on a daily basis.
“This is a really good example of stock rationalisation as recommended by the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) in their recent publication, "Location, location, location." The TSA recommends that all social landlords should be examining their stock holdings and, where it makes sense to them and for the local communities, to transfer those homes to a more locally-based social housing provider."
Tenants’ rights and entitlements will not be affected by the move and services will continue to be delivered in the same way. All tenants were written to explaining the plans to transfer the homes and the majority voted in favour of the move to Amber Valley Housing.
Paul Parkinson, executive director or Amber Valley Housing, said: “We are delighted that the residents of Alder Road voted to transfer their homes to us.
“As a local housing provider we are able to deliver high-quality frontline services through our network of neighbourhood and repairs teams.
“We will now be working with residents to discuss the improvements they would like to see to their homes and hope to begin work on a refurbishment programme before the end of the year.”
