A PROJECT to transform affordable housing in Ironville has been completed as tenants move into their refurbished homes in time for Christmas.
Thanks to housing provider Amber Valley Housing, work has now been completed on the upgrade of 32 homes in Meadow Street and Albert Street, which were originally built in the 1800s.
The work has included turning some homes around, which involved moving entrances to improve access and layout; rebuilding extensions to move bathrooms upstairs; installing new kitchens, bathrooms, double glazing and central heating and re-turfing front and back gardens.
The first phase was completed in March, when tenants moved back into the first 10 homes, and now the remaining 12 properties have been completed.
Sandra Taylor, who has lived at her home in Albert Street for 31 years, has recently moved back into her transformed home.
“It’s fantastic what the improvements have done to the quality of our home. Amber Valley Housing has done a marvellous job and the staff have worked very hard to make all the changes but it was all worth it,” said Sandra.
She added: “Our living room is now where the kitchen was which has given us more room. There is nothing to fault and our grandson loves coming over to stay in his new bedroom.”
The improvement work in Ironville was part of Amber Valley Housing’s programme to bring all its homes up to the Government’s Decent Homes Standard. All of its homes are set to meet the standard by the target date of 2010.
Amber Valley Housing chief executive Paul Parkinson said: “We are delighted the properties at Ironville are now complete and the tenants can benefit from the huge improvements.
“We are committed to providing a high standard of housing to our tenants. This development is part of our major improvement programme which is seeing us invest more than £57million so far to improve the standard of social housing across Amber Valley.”
Whilst work was being completed tenants were housed in nearby properties to keep disruption to a minimum.
